Homes

Moseleys 900 Home
I remember that Grandma had a plate with a picture of the house painted on it

Joyce:  In researching personal history, I discovered census records that showed their first home was at 804 Spruce.  I have a faded copy of a snapshot, but found this picture on Google and am surprised that in 2020 the house is still standing.   I remember Grandma telling me that at one time, Eula and her husband lived with them.  I don't think it was that unusual for young couples at the time.

Property Overview - 804 Spruce Ave, Kansas City, MO 64124 is a single family home built in 1900. This property was last sold in 2012 and currently has an estimated value of $54,700. The $54,700 estimated value is 46.85% greater than the median listing price of $37,250 for the Lykins area.

I'm not sure in what order they lived in these homes, but they moved to Independence about the time I was born and lived at:

900 S. Home
9312 E. 27th Street
23rd and Ralston - Margaret Marston later lived at that address
9314 E. 27th Street

Our parents also had an apartment in this home, so we lived together as a family with our own space.  Later, Grandpa cut it up into several apartments.  Susan remembers going there with him to collect the rent from his tenants.  A few years ago it was restored.

Has always looked nice until this year
Now it looks abandoned

They owned this home and then, I believe, built on the property next door at 9314.
Forty years later they bought it again for Joyce to rent.
Joyce and Eddie eventually bought it from them.
The front used to be a screened in porch, but we enclosed it to make a third bedroom and second bathroom.

I love seeing Grandma's handwriting on this one, "The Ole Homestead."  I'd know that handwriting anywhere.  I also see it in one of her old recipe books.

The home at 9314 E. 27th was their last.  From there, they moved to John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, MO, and both passed away at that location.
